08 Mar 2017 - (435 Transport and Rescue Squadron), age 31,  MCpl Barr's parachute failed to deploy in a training session near Yorkton, Saskatchewan.

Capt. Thomas McQueen (Hamilton, ON)
28 Nov 2016 - (401 Tactical Fighter Squadron), age 29, Capt. McQueen's CF-18 Hornet fighter jet crashed inside the Cold Air Weapons Range in Saskatchewan on Monday during a routine training mission. 

MS Guillermo Morales Castellon (Honduras)
26 Nov 2016 - (443 Maritime Helicopter Squadron), age 50, MS Morales Castellon, seriously injured during an industrial accident five days earlier in North Saanich. He was pronounced dead in the hospital with his spouse by his side.

Major Scott Foote (New Harbour, NL)
17 Nov 2016 - (1st Canadian Division HQ), age 50, Major Foote, a logistics officer, was found unconscious in a military gym in Amman, Jordan. He was pronounced dead after attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.

Special Honour Memorial (Saskatchewan)
Three northern Saskatchewan lakes have been named after soldiers from the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery and Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry who died in Afghanistan. The geomemorial recognizes the sacrifices of individuals who were born or spent time in Saskatchewan and who gave their lives in service. Goddard Lake was named after Capt Nicola Goddard (2006); Anderson Lake recognizes Cpl Jordan Anderson (2007); and Greff Lake honours MCpl Byron Greff (2011). Their stories can be found below: 

Sgt. Andrew Joseph Dorion (Moncton, NB)
06 Mar 2015 - (Canadian Special Operations Regiment), age 31, Sgt. Andrew Joseph Doiron from the Canadian Special Operations Regiment, based at Garrison Petawawa, was killed by Iraqi Kurdish forces who mistakenly engaged the Canadians in combat in Iraq.

Cpl. Nathan Cirillo (Hamilton, ON)
22 Oct 2014 - (Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders), age 24, Nathan Cirillo was the strong, smiling type. His life ended October 22 in downtown Ottawa, as he stood guard at the National War Memorial in ceremonial uniform with white gloves alongside another soldier at the National War Memorial. Cirillo was a very proud member of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.

WO Patrice Vincent (Saint-Jean, QC)
20 Oct 2014 - (JPSU), age 53, On October 20, 52-year-old Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent, a 28 year military man, was run down and killed by a young man who had embraced radical Islam. Vincent was accompanying another warrant officer that was doing an administrative procedure. Vincent offered to help the officer who needed support to complete his duty. At his funeral on November 1, a friend recalls how Vincent always put service before self.

Cpl. Alain Lacasse (Valcartier, QC)
17 Mar 2014 - (Royal 22nd Regiment), age 43, Corporal Alain Lacasse, 43, served six tours of duty including two in Bosnia and one in Afghanistan. He was found dead in his home in Valcartier, Que., on March 17, 2014. Police said it was a suicide.

LCol. Stephane Beauchemin (Limoges, ON)
16 Jan 2014 - (JPSU), age 22, LCol. Stephane Beauchemin, a 22-year veteran who had been deployed to Haiti and Bosnia, died in Limoges, Ont, a small town east of Ottawa.

Cpl. Camilo Sanhueza-Martinez (Kingston, ON)
08 Jan 2014 - (The Princess of Wales’ Own Regiment), age 29, Cpl. Camilo Sanhueza-Martinez, a member of The Princess of Wales’ Own Regiment based in Kingston, Ont., who had fought in Afghanistan, was found dead.

Cpl. Adam Eckhardt (Trenton, ON)
03 Jan 2014 - (Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry), age 30, Cpl. Adam Eckhardt, a native of Trenton, Ont. who was based with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry at CFB Suffield in Alberta, was found dead.

MCpl Bryon Greff (Red Deer, AB)
29 Oct 2011 - Bryon (3PPCLI), who was on his second tour of Afghanistan, died when the Rhino (armoured bus) he was travelling in was rammed by an explosives-packed car. He had been serving with the NATO mission as a mentor, trainer and adviser to Afghan National Army trainers that provide recruit training to Afghan soldiers. Four other NATO soldiers, 8 civilian contractors and 4 Afghan civilians were also killed.

MCpl Francis Roy (Rimouski, QC)
25 Jun 2011 - Francis (Royal 22e Regiment), age 32, died at a forward base in Kandahar City where he was a transport specialist for special forces commandos who carry out secret missions in support of Canadian and other coalition and Afghan forces. He died of non-combat injuries.

Bombardier Karl Manning (Chicoutimi, QC)
27 May 2011 - Karl (Royal Canadian Horse Artillery), age 31, became the 156th Canadian soldier to die in Afghanistan.

Cpl Yannick Scherrer (Montreal, QC)
27 Mar 2011 - Yannick (1 R22eR), age 24, was killed by an improvised explosive device while on a security patrol in Kandahar.

Cpl Steve Martin (Saint-Cyrille-de-Wendover, QC)
18 Dec 2010 - Steve (3rd Battalion Royal 22e Regiment), age 24, was killed by an improvised explosive device, or IED, while on foot patrol two days before his 25th birthday.

Cpl Brian Pinksen (Corner Brook, NL)
10 Aug 2010 - Brian (2 Royal Newfoundland Regiment), age 20, was wounded by an improvised explosive device while on foot patrol in Nakhonay, in the Panjwaii district of Kandahar. He was treated and flown to a military hospital in Germany, where he died from his wounds.

20 July 2010 - Brian (1CER), age 24, killed by an improvised explosive device after he had dismounted from his armoured vehicle in Nakhonay about 15 km southwest of Kandahar city in the Panjwaii district.

Pte Andrew Miller (Sudbury, ON)
26 June 2010 - Andrew (2 Field Ambulance / 1RCR), age 21, was one of two killed by an IED when responding to a report of a mine found in the doorway of a home. Based at CFB Petawawa, Andrew was serving on his first overseas deployment.

MCpl Kristal Giesebrecht (Wallaceburg, ON)
26 June 2010 - Kristal (1CFH / 1RCR), age 34, was one of two killed by an IED when responding to a report of a mine found in the doorway of a home.

Sgt James Patrick MacNeil (Glace Bay, NS)
21 June 2010 - James (2CER), age 28, Killed by an IED after he had dismounted from his armoured vehicle in Nakhonay about 15 km southwest of Kandahar city in the Panjwaii district, on one of the deadliest days for foreign soldiers in the war, with nine deaths. MacNeil was on his fourth tour of duty in Afghanistan.

7 June 2010 - (1CER), age 35, was killed by a homemade landmine just before dawn on Sunday while on a foot patrol about 15 kilometres southwest of Kandahar City. “Recognized early in his career for his leadership, Martin was a tremendous asset to his battle group and Task Force Kandahar,” BGen Vance said.

Trooper Larry John Zuidema Rudd (Brantford, ON)
24 May 2010 - Larry (1RCR), age 26, was killed after an improvised explosive device detonated during a routine security operation, about 20 kilometres southwest of Kandahar City.

Colonel Geoff Parker (Oakville, ON)
18 May 2010 - Geoff (2RCR), age 42, was killed when a car full of explosives drove into a NATO convoy during morning rush hour on the edge of Kabul.

Private Kevin McKay (Richmond Hill, ON)
13 May 2010 - (1 PPCLI), age 24, died when an explosion erupted around his platoon while on patrol in a village just outside Kandahar City. His tour of duty was scheduled to end in a few days.

PO2 Douglas Craig Blake (Simcoe, ON)
03 May 2010 - Craig (FDU-A), age 37, was killed by an improvised explosive device after diffusing another about 25km southwest of Kandahar City. Petty Officer 2nd Class Blake, serving with the Fleet Diving Unit Atlantic (based in Shearwater, NS), had been in Afghanistan for only a few weeks.

Private Tyler William Todd (Kitchener, ON)
11 Apr 2010 - Tyler (1 PPCLI), age 26, was killed in a powerful roadside bomb blast while on foot patrol near the community of Belanday. He was weeks away from completing a six month tour. His death comes as the U.S. pours thousands of reinforcements into Kandahar province and as NATO plans a spring offensive.

Corporal Darren James Fitzpatrick (Prince George, BC)
20 Mar 2010 - Darren (3 PPCLI), age 21, was wounded in an IED attack on March 6th and later died of his wounds at the University of Alberta Hospital. On his first tour of Afghanistan since joining the Canadian Forces in 2006, Cpl Fitzpatrick had been serving on the Operational Mentor Liaison Team which helps train members of the Afghan National Army.

Corporal Joshua Caleb Baker (Edmonton, AB)
12 Feb 2010 - Joshua (4 PPCLI), age 24, was accidentally killed during a routine training exercise. "This type of training is normal for soldiers in theatre and essential in helping them to maintain high levels of expertise," BGen Daniel Menard, the top commander in Kandahar, said Saturday in a release. An investigation into Baker's death is underway to determine what caused the accident.

Capt Francis (Frank) Cecil Paul (Badger, NL)
10 Feb 2010 - Frank (28 Field Ambulance), age 53, Died of natural causes while on leave from duty in Kandahar. While deployed in operations, he was the adjutant for the health services support unit of Joint Task Force Afghanistan.

Sergeant John Wayne Faught (Sault Ste. Marie, ON)
16 Jan 2010 - John (1PPCLI), age 44, died while on foot patrol in the Panjwaii district of Kandahar province after stepping on an improvised explosive device.

Private Garrett William Chidley (Cambridge, ON)
30 Dec 2009 - Garrett (2PPCLI), age 21, was one of four soldiers and a journalist that were killed by a roadside bomb during a patrol in Afghanistan. He was based at CFB Shilo, Manitoba. Four other soldiers and a civilian were also wounded.

Corporal Zachery McCormack (Edmonton, AB)
30 Dec 2009 - Zach (Loyal Edmonton Regiment), age 21, was one of four soldiers and a journalist that were killed by a roadside bomb during a patrol in Afghanistan. Four other soldiers and a civilian were also wounded.

Sergeant Kirk Taylor (Yarmouth, NS)
30 Dec 2009 - Kirk (84th Independant Field Battery, RCA), age 28, was one of four soldiers and a journalist killed when the vehicle they were riding in was struck by an IED in Kandahar city. Sgt Taylor had prepared a statement to be released to media in the event of his death.

Sergeant George Miok (Edmonton, AB)
30 Dec 2009 - (41CER), age 28, George was one of four soldiers killed when the vehicle they were riding in was struck by an IED in Kandahar city. A journalist reporting for the Calgary Herald was also killed in the blast.

23 Dec 2009 - Andrew (1PPCLI), age 30, was killed by an improvised explosive device while on foot patrol in Kandahar.

Sapper (Private) Steven Marshall (Calgary, AB)
30 Oct 2009 - Steven (1CRE), age 24, was killed by an improvised explosive device while on foot patrol in Kandahar.

Lieutenant Justin Garrett Boyes (Saskatoon, SK)
28 Oct 2009 - Justin (3 PPCLI), age 26, was killled by an IED in Panjwaii District about 20 km southwest of Kandahar city while leading a foot patrol with Afghan National Police. Two other soldiers were wounded in the blast.

Private Jonathan Couturier (Loretteville, QC)
17 Sep 2009 - Jonathan (2 R22eR), age 23, was killed by a roadside blast when the armoured vehicle he was riding in struck an improvised explosive device (IED) about 25km southwest of Kandahar city while returning from an operation launched against insurgents in Panjwaii district. 11 other Canadian soldiers were also wounded by the blast.

Private Patrick Lormand (Chute-a-Blondeau, QC)
14 Sep 2009 - Patrick (2 R22eR), age 21, was killed by a roadside blast when the armoured vehicle he was riding in struck an improvised explosive device (IED) about 13km southwest of Kandahar city. Four other Canadian soldiers were also injured in the blast.

6 Sep 2009 - Jean-Francois (5e Régiment du genie de combat), age 31, was one of two soldiers killed by a powerful roadside blast while riding in an armoured vehicle as part of a convoy in Dand district southwest of Kandahar city. They had come out of their vehicle to secure the area after the first explosion, when another IED exploded. One other Canadian soldier was seriously wounded in the blast.

Corporal Christian Bobbitt (Sept-Îles, QC)
2 Aug 2009 - Christian (5e Régiment du genie de combat), age 23, was one of two soldiers killed when their resupply convoy was struck by two improvised explosive devices in southern Afghanistan's Zhari district. They had come out of their vehicle to secure the area after the first explosion, when another IED exploded. One other Canadian soldier was seriously wounded in the blast.

16 Jul 2009 - Sébastien (2 R22eR), age 26, was killed when he was thrown off a cliff edge after stepping on an IED while conducting a combat operation in the Panjwayi District.

Corporal Martin Joannette (Saint-Calixte, QC)
7 Jul 2009 - Martin (3 R22eR), age 25, was one of two soldiers killed in a CH-146 Griffon helicopter crash possibly caused by mechanical failure or human error, along with a coalition soldier from another country, at an American forward operating base in Zabul province, about 80 km northeast of Kandahar city. Three other Canadian soldiers were injured in the crash.

4 Jul 2009 - Charles-Philippe (3 R22eR), age 28, was killed when he stepped on a land mine while on foot patrol in the Panjwaii district, southwest of Kandahar city.

Captain Nicolas Bulger (Buckhorn, ON)
3 Jul 2009 - Nicholas (3 PPCLI), age 30, was killed when his vehicle struck a roadside bomb in Zhari district of Kandahar province. The explosion occurred seconds after the bomb was narrowly missed by the vehicle carrying the senior commander of coalition forces in the province. Five other Canadian soldiers were also wounded in the IED blast, with three sustaining injuries serious enough to require evacuation to Germany for further medical treatment.

Captain Martin Dubé (Quebec City, QC)
14 Jun 2009 - Martin (5e Régiment du genie de combat), age 35, was killed in the Panjwai district about 20 kilometres southwest of Kandahar city when the explosive device he was trying to defuse detonated. The explosion also killed the police chief of the Panjwai district and seriously wounded an Afghan interpreter.

Private Alexandre Péloquin (Region of Laurentides, QC)
8 Jun 2009 - Alexandre (3 R22eR), age 20, was killed by an explosive device while on foot patrol in the southern Afghanistan town of Nakhoney in the Panjwai district. His unit had been involved in a 6-day sweep to find and remove materials used to make IEDs.

24 Apr 2009 - Michelle (Chief of Defense Intelligence), age 30, was found dead in her accommodation room at Kandahar Air Field.

Cavalier Karine Blais (Les Méchins, QC)
13 Apr 2009 - Karine (12e Régiment Blindé du Canada), age 21, was killed by an IED while travelling in a light armoured vehicle in the Shah Wali Kot district. Four other Canadian soldiers were wounded in the blast.

20 Mar 2009 - Corey (RCD), age 22, was one of two soldiers killed when a roadside bomb detonated under their vehicle in the Shah Wali Kot district about 20 km northwest of Kandahar City, while taking part in a massive operation to attack Taliban command centres and supply routes. Three other Canadian soldiers wounded in the blast.

Trooper Marc Diab (Mississauga, ON)
8 Mar 2009 - Marc (RCD), age 22, was killed when a large IED detonated near his armoured vehicle in the southern Shah Wali Kot district. Four other Canadian soldiers were wounded by the explosion, with three of them having to be evacuated to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany.

Corporal Kenneth O'Quinn (Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL)
4 Mar 2009 - Kenneth (2 CMBG HQ & Signal Squadron), age 25, was one of three soldiers killed by a massive roadside bomb that detonated near their armoured Bison vehicle as they headed back to base after having defused another IED that had been called in by the Afghan National Police. Two other Canadian soldiers were wounded in the blast that occurred in the Arghandab District about 10 km northwest of Kandahar city.

7 Jan 2009 - Brian (RCD), age 42, was killed by an IED while travelling in an armoured vehicle 35 km north of Kandahar city, many other Canadians wounded.

Sergeant Gregory John Kruse (New Maryland, NB)
27 Dec 2008 - Gregory (2 CER), age 40, was one of two soldiers killed by a roadside IED along with two Afghan police officers and Afghan interpreter while inspecting an IED 25 km west of Kandahar city. Four other Canadians wounded.

27 Dec 2008 - Gaetan (2e R22eR), age 45, was one of two soldiers killed by a roadside IED along with two Afghan police officers and Afghan interpreter while inspecting an IED 25 km west of Kandahar city. Four other Canadians wounded.

26 Dec 2008 - Michael (3 RCR), age 28, was killed by an improvised explosive device (IED) blast while travelling off-road in an armoured vehicle in security operations in the Zhari district about 24 km west of Kandahar city. Three other Canadians wounded.

Private John Michael Roy Curwin (Mount Uniacke, NS)
13 Dec 2008 - John (2 RCR), age 26, was one of three killed when their armoured vehicle was hit by the blast from another large roadside IED while on patrol in Arghandab district, approximately 14 km west of Kandahar City and within 1 km of the site of the December 5 deaths.

13 Dec 2008 - Justin (2 RCR), age 21, was one of three killed when their armoured vehicle was hit by the blast from another large roadside IED while on patrol in Arghandab district, approximately 14 km west of Kandahar City and within 1 km of the site of the December 5 deaths.

13 Dec 2008 - Thomas (2 RCR), age 26, was one of three killed when their armoured vehicle was hit by the blast from another large roadside IED while on patrol in Arghandab district, approximately 14 km west of Kandahar City and within 1 km of the site of the December 5 deaths.

Private Demetrios Diplaros (Scarborough, ON)
5 Dec 2008 - Demetrios (1RCR), age 24, was one of three killed by an IED while riding in an armoured vehicle. Diplaros, known as “Dip” by his comrades, was described as an exceptional driver and gunner. He was based at CFB Petawawa, near Ottawa.

Corporal Mark Robert McLaren (Peterborough, ON)
5 Dec 2008 - Mark (1RCR), age 23, was one of three killed by an IED explosion while riding in an armoured vehicle. Based at CFB Petawawa, west of Ottawa, he was previously wounded on a 2006 tour of duty.

Warrant Officer Robert John Wilson (Keswick, ON)
5 Dec 2008 - Robert (1RCR), age 38, was one of three killed when the vehicle they were travelling in was hit by the blast from a very large improvised explosive device(IED) in Arghandab district, west of Kandahar City. He was based at CFB Petawawa.

Sergeant Prescott (Scott) Shipway (Esterhazy, SK)
7 Sept 2008 - Scott (2PPCLI), age 36, was killed by an IED when the armoured fighting vehicle he was in was fired upon during a security patrol in Zharey district. Sgt Shipway was a week away from completing his second tour of duty in Afghanistan. Five other soldiers were wounded in the blast.

3 Sep 2008 - Chadwick (2PPCLI), age 21, was one of three soldiers killed when their armoured fighting vehicle was fired upon while they were conducting a security patrol in the Zhari district. Five other soldiers were wounded.

3 Sept 2008 - Mike (2PPCLI), age 21, was one of three soldiers killed in a Taliban ambush while conducting a security patrol in an armoured fighting vehicle in the Zhari district. Five other soldiers were wounded.

3 Sept 2008 - Drew (2PPCLI), age 23, was one of three soldiers killed in a Taliban ambush when their armoured fighting vehicle was fired upon during a security patrol in Zhari district. Five other soldiers were wounded.

Sapper Stephan John Stock (Campbell River, BC)
21 Aug 2008 - Stephan (1 CER), age 25, was one of three killed by an IED on Highway 1 in Zhari District while conducting a survey of a route to be used in future operations. A fourth Canadian soldier seriously wounded.

Corporal Dustin Roy Robert Joseph Wasden (Spiritwood, SK)
21 Aug 2008 - Dustin (1 CER), age 25, was one of three killed by an IED on Highway 1 in Zhari District while conducting a survey of a route to be used in future operations. A fourth Canadian soldier seriously wounded.

Sergeant Shawn Allan Eades (Hamilton, ON)
