Executive Editor (2020- )
Pascal took on the role of Executive Editor of FrontLine Safety & Security magazine in September 2020. He has more than 30 years experience in public safety and emergency management, and is a Certified Emergency Manager with the International Association of Emergency Managers.

After retiring from leadership roles in Emergency Medical Services, he joined Nova Scotia Health’s Emergency Preparedness team where, as Manager of Projects and Planning, he has been focused on the COVID-19 healthcare response since December 2019.

He has extensive experiences leading teams on large-scale incidents and events; commanding responses to multiple airplane crashes, multi-casualty incidents, EMS support for fire/Hazmat/CBRNE/ and civil unrest incidents, and large scale civic celebrations (including the 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics). Pascal was the Director of the Emergency Measures Office in Quispamsis NB during the 2018 Freshet Floods.

As a champion for responder interoperability since 2002, Pascal operationalized one of Canada's first interoperable radio systems in BC, he is a founding associate of CITIG, co-authored the Communications Interoperability Strategy and Action Plan for Public Safety Canada and was the original PCC Representative and Co-Chair on the Tri-Services Chief's Special Purpose Committee on 700 MHz Broadband for Mission Critical Public Safety.

Pascal has an extensive education in public safety, emergency management, a Master of Arts in leadership (Health), from Royal Roads University, as well as certificates from the Emergency Management and Emergency Exercise Design Programs at the Justice Institute of British Columbia.

Dr Jonathan Calof
Past Executive Editor (2015-2018)
A professor of International Business and Strategy at the Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa, and co-director of the Telfer Business Analytics and Performance management area, Dr Calof combines research and consulting in competitive intelligence, technical foresight and business analytics to help organizations develop key insights on their competitive environment. Dr. Calof worked on a global study of the largest corporate failure in Canadian corporate history, Nortel. The results have led to new tools and skills for boards of directors, measurements for organizational resiliency and understanding of how the black cloud of customer doubt begins, how it can be measured and managed.

Clive Addy (retired Major-General)
Advisor (past Executive Editor, 2006-2015)

Clive Addy served for 35 years in the Canadian Forces. Among his many posts, he was Commander of the Cdn Brigade in Germany, the Deputy Chief of Staff (Ops) at Central Army Group in Heidelberg, Chief of Staff of Mobile Command, and Commander of Land Forces in Western Canada. Retiring at the rank of Major-General in 1996, he helped draft an audit of Emergency Preparedness for British Columbia. He then became the National Executive Secretary of the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires. He is the past National Vice Chair of the CDA, and the past National Chair of the Federation of Military and United Services Institutes of Canada. He is the founding Chair of the National Security Group, and held the post of Executive Editor of FrontLine Security until October 2014.

Scott Newark
Advisor

A former Alberta Crown Prosecutor, Scott Newark moved to a national criminal justice reform advocacy role when named as the first non-police officer to serve as the Executive Officer of the Canadian Police Association in Ottawa. After 9-11 he was named as Ontario’s Special Security Advisor and authored that Province’s Security Perimeter Strategy. He also served as Director of Operations for the Washington DC based Investigative Project on Terrorism and thereafter co-authored ’A View from the Front Lines’ which led to the arming of Canada’s Border Services Officers and ending work-alone situations. He has served as a criminal justice and security advisor to governments in Canada, including as the Senior Policy Advisor to the Minister of Public Safety. He is an Executive Committee member of Borderpol and Vice Chair/Operations of the National Security Group and a former member of the North American Advisory Board to the International Association of Airport and Seaport Police and the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police Aviation Security Committee. Scott is a frequent media commentator on matters of criminal justice reform, Islamic extremism, counter terrorism, infrastructure protection and border security.

Edward R. Myers
Advisor

Edward R. Myers earned his Masters degree from Carleton University’s Institute for Canadian Studies. He specialized in Law and Journalism which propelled him into an early career in the publishing industry where he authored a school textbook, Living Law, published by McClelland and Stewart, and directed a video called Jury Duty which was produced for the Law Reform Commission of Canada by the National Film Board of Canada. Myers is an accomplished executive with 25 years experience in developing new businesses and strategic relationships in the information technology and defense sectors in Canada and the United States.

Philip Murray
Advisor

With 38 years of policing with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police including over 6 years in the top post of Commissioner, Phil Murray has made significant contributions to shaping the RCMP, and law enforcement generally, to meet the challenges of modern policing. He has championed community policing model to meet diverse needs; strengthened positive working relationships to encourage shared solutions to law enforcement and governance issues; encouraged technological innovation and investment; and led collaborative and proactive development of enforcement and prevention strategies to address major security threats and risks. Recent experience includes: Fairness Commissioner; Ipperwash Commission of Inquiry into Aboriginal, Government and Police relationships; Cornwall Commission of Inquiry into Historical Sexual Abuse; Vice-Chair Ottawa Hospital Board of Governors; Governance Committee, Garda World Security Corporation; Vice-Chair Strategy, National Security Group; and Board of Directors, Pearson Peacekeeping Centre.

Chris MacLean began her magazine career in 1976 as Art Director with Canadian Review magazine (published by E. Graydon Carter, editor of Vanity Fair magazine). She also worked at ad agencies in Ottawa such as the Bytown Group and Media Edge. Chris returned to industry management positions at Aubut and Associates and KG Campbell Corp before seizing an opportunity to return to the challenge of magazine publishing. Chris began work on Vanguard magazine in 1998, rising to Managing Editor and finally General Manager. After the untimely passing of the publisher (her mentor) in the summer of 2003, Chris then took on the challenge of establishing Canada’s FRONTLINE magazines, which quickly took the lead in both the defence and homeland security sectors.
