Finally, a solution to help prevent unnecessary amputations for veterans, the elderly, diabetics, and other wound victims. This emerging wound care therapy now heals limbs previously scheduled for amputation, but is not yet approved for Canada.

A nursing team from AVANTI Technologies has been supporting Numotech, a Los Angeles-based medical device company, to address one of health care’s biggest challenges – non-healing wounds that often led to limb amputations, until now.

Carleton University researchers Richard Amos and a team led by Marina Milyavskaya have received just over $200,000 in combined funding from the Canada Foundation for Innovation’s (CFI) John R. Evans Leaders Fund (JELF) for work that will improve the healthy behaviour of Canadians and prevent the contamination of groundwater.

“Carleton is leading the way in research that is vital to the health of Canadians and the Canadian environment,” said Rafik Goubran, vice-president (Research and International).

Canadian innovation leads to developing the world’s largest Polar Over The Horizon HF Radar system (P-OTHR).

Innovative HF technology is a major focus for D-TA, and they have been active in pioneering 100% Canadian, 21st century solutions. For example, when the Polar Over-The-Horizon Radar is installed in the Arctic, it will be the world’s largest HF radar. This highly advanced system consists of 1024 receive and 256 transmit channels – all operating in synchronism, creating many narrow beams to enhance detection, probability, and clutter mitigation.
