At the Farnborough Airshow in the UK, imaging leader L3 WESCAM announced it has signed an agreement with European Optronics Services (EOS) to open a WESCAM Authorized Service Center (WASC) in Madrid, Spain.

The 1,744-square-foot facility will maintain L3’s MX-Series of electro-optical and infrared (EO/IR) imaging turrets operated by customers located across Spain, Portugal and Algeria. The center is expected to be operational early 2019.

Following the Intergovernmental Agreement signed between France and Ukraine on 8 June, Airbus Helicopters signed a contract with the Ukrainian Ministry of Interior for the purchase of 55 civil helicopters destined for search and rescue (SAR), public services, and emergency medical service (EMS) missions in the country. The 55 aircraft include 21 re-purposed H225s, and 10 brand new H145s and 24 H125.

Leonardo DRS, for the third time,  has been awarded the  Defense Security Service Award for Excellence in Counterintelligence.  The award is the highest U.S. honor given to the defense industry for protecting classified information and technology through a culture of compliance with government security regulations and partnership with DoD intelligence services.

Leonardo DRS received the 2016 award for developing new techniques to identify malicious communications and subsequently, training other defense contractors on how to implement countermeasures.

Stellwagen, recently acquired by the Canadian investment and private equity management company Acasta Enterprises (TSE:AEF), has signed a firm order for 12 Airbus C295 medium transport aircraft in the first sale to a leasing company achieved by Airbus Defence and Space.

International aerospace and defence engineering group Meggitt PLC, together with a consortium of selected business partners, has secured UK Government funding of £3.7 million to finance research and development in advanced thermal systems technology for next-generation energy efficient ultra-high bypass ratio (UHBR) aero engines. The grant, provided through the Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) programme, will be matched by the consortium.

Airbus Helicopters Canada is looking to recognize outstanding achievement in the rotary wing industry with the 5th Annual ‘Innovation in Safety Award’.

The winner of this year’s ‘Innovation in Safety Award’ will be selected, once again, by a committee of industry professionals.  The award ceremony will take place during the Helicopter Association of Canada’s annual conference, November 10th -14th in Edmonton, Alberta. The award recipient will receive a cash prize of $10,000.00 CAD in addition to recognition from the industry.

BC Hydro has been awarded the 2015 Airbus Helicopters Canada “Innovation in Safety” Award for their dedicated and collaborative approach to ensuring many years of safe operations.

This award is presented to a nominee or organization whose business initiatives have demonstrated a great impact on the overall goal of safe flying operations, including skill development, training and committing additional resources to safety programs. The winner, determined by an award selection committee, receives a $10,000 prize.
